Forgive me!

It's been too long since my last post. We have been remodeling our home extensively over the past few weeks and that has consumed my energy and time. I also left for a week to speak at a prayer and Bible conference in Northern California.

I am very seriously contemplating moving this blog to a .mac account. I have one already set up and paid for I just need to utilize it! I will work on that this morning and this blog will be the first to know!

Oh well, just as I get started again, the painters have arrived and I have to supervise.

Ciao, for now.....

Do we deal with Symptoms or the Problem?

I've been down with a bad case of the flu. It started early this past week and just would not let up. It allowed me to spend more time than I like in bed with a couple of books and all the hot tea I could drink.

Oh well, I'm feeling a lot better this morning and looking forward to worshiping the Lord in Spirit and in Truth!

Talking with someone about my illness this morning as I went to my customary Sunday morning cafe, they asked what I was doing about my flu.

I told them I was taking Day care, tylenol and claritin. The man responded, "oh, so you are just dealing with the symptoms, you aren't doing anything to get rid of the flu!"

I have been thinking about that. How many times in life, do we just deal with "symptoms". We wait and hope that father time will treat the problem and make it go away, while we just treat "symptoms".

How many are dealing with sin that way? They aren't desperate enough to address the issue, they are content to just deal with the symptoms.

update

Good Morning!

It's been a few days since I've blogged. We have been busy repainting the inside of our home. Did I say "busy"? Oh well, it sure looks nice. My wife is happy as well. Just a few more day's and we'll be done.

I sent in a paper that deals with blogging and my experiences blogging here on this web site. I've yet to hear how my paper was received.

That's enough for today, I'll be back!

Soul Talk

The biggest hindrance to our interaction with the spiritual realm is our own emotion.
We are so led by our emotions that we sometimes cannot be led by the spirit.
In short, if we don't feel it, it must not be real!
If we don't feel it, it must not be right!
Our best worship comes when our emotions are awakened.
But God is still just as much God, when I'm not feeling anything.
Our greatest miracles happen when we are feeling the buzz of anointing.
Yet I have learned to my surprise that as long as I am walking in righteousness, the anointing is upon me.
It's on me whether I feel it or not.
I have obligatorily prayed for people, not feeling anything, except maybe tired. I have been shocked when they started rejoicing over a healing, a miracle!
And why not? God is still God!
He is the healer. I am the tool.
Does the hammer have to feel, in order to work?

This entire chain of thought began as I sat in a service recently. Inwardly I was in complaint mode. The songs were NOT to my liking. The service leader was a dead as they get. I was feeling that this service was a waste of time.
About that time, God began moving through the audience in a special way.
I felt Him saying into my spirit, you let your emotions keep you from too many moves of my spirit.

The book of Hebrews comes to mind: Hebrews 4:12 (KJV)
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The Word of God can separate the soul and spirit! The soul is the connecting port that I have to reach God. The spirit is the house my emotions live in. They are separate!

God, teach me thy ways!

Getting old?

I just realized that I blogged utilizing memories from 20+ years ago!

Does that mean I'm getting Old?

Please! Somebody! Help Me!

I guess I don't mind getting old, I just never want to be irrelevant!

Gotta go now, I need a glass of prune juice....

Goin' a lil' "retro"!

I am in the process of writing a term paper for a class. During the process, I am pulling up buried memories from over twenty years ago.

Who could have dreamed that the building of small personal computers, and the opening of masses of networks to the public would result in “A whole new world”!

I recall working in the Bay area for a micro filming company in the early 1980’s. We worked with many up and coming companies located in the Silicon Valley during that time, one of which was called Osborn computers. Up until that time, most of the general population had never seen a computer. The computers that existed were large monstrosities took someone with specialized skills to operate. The main purpose of these “monsters” was data collection. They were also good at crunching numbers and keeping track of things. However, there was little to no software that the general public could find useful in every day life. Osborn Computers were one of the first to bring many businesses into the computer age. They were one of the first to create a portable computer. I remember the first time I saw one of these "laptop" computers. Looking at that small brown suitcase with it’s little black and white screen, I had no idea how much our world would be revolutionized within a short twenty years. Tandy, came out with the little TRS-80. they were afraid that the public might not go for it, so they only ordered 3000. The leaders of the company reasoned that if they did not sell, they could use the computers to keep track of data in each of their 3000 stores. To the amazement of all, they sold 10,000 the first month and by years end had sold over 55,000. The revolution had begun.

My marriage to my wife in 1983 was challenged from time to time by my love affairs with computers. First a Tandy 8088 invaded the sanctity of our home, to be followed by each successive micro-processor to follow.

I had no idea that I was a willing participant in a cultural revolution that would shake our world as perhaps nothing else ever has.

Live = Christ, Die = Gain

We sometimes have a hard time connecting the Word of God to us.

We are SO about living! From the time we get up, until the time we lay down, we try to cram as much living into every day as possible.

The reality is, this thing we call LIFE is just a trial run for ETERNAL life. For us to get there, we have to go through a temporary experience called death.

Living the christian life is the art of practicing "dying". Not in a literal sense, but a spiritual one. It's learning not to hold anything so close that I cannot let it go if I need to.

I was going through some notes this morning and came across a phrase from a class with Dr. Earl Creps. It turned my thinking machine on.

"What part of me needs to die today, so that I may live as Christ?"

So what is it? Huh?

In the last days

I don't seem to be able to get away from the words, "in the last days". I don't mean to be apocalyptic, nor am I ready to pick up my sign saying "the end is near!", but I am convinced that we are in the last days.

2 Timothy 3:1-2 (KJV)
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Paul wrote to Timothy about these unsettling times. Paul said they would be PERILOUS times. The greek word literally means, fierce, furious and dangerous.

Paul continues to list a lot of character issues that define the people of the last days. The first one stands out to me. Men would be lovers of their own selves. It seems to me that many today love themselves more than God, more than family, more than their fellow man. It is unsettling to see so many who know exactly what sins they are committing, but simply do not care. They love their sin, more than being right with God.

When the Lord came the first time to planet earth, he sent a messenger to prepare the way by preaching REPENT!

The Lord is coming again! There is a fresh call for REPENTANCE that is sweeping the land right now. A call is going out to saint and sinner alike. "Get your hearts ready!" "Get your spirits ready!" "Jesus is coming!".

It's a new season!

Wow! A lot has been happening in the past few days!

Nancy and I left home for a quick emergency on Wednesday. We decided that as we were in the vicinity we would attend the Thursday evening service of Landmark Convention in Stockton. What a wonderful service that was! Missionary Steve Willoughby preached a tremendous message and was mightily anointed by God!

We arrived home on Friday night after driving all day long. I dropped Nancy off, reloaded my suitcase and headed for San Bernardino. On Saturday morning we held our new District Formation Conference in which all of our district officials were elected.
Brother Art Hodges III was elected to serve as our new District Superintendent and Brother Elms as our District Secretary. We are excited about the direction that these moves will take us.

Yesterday saw a powerful move of God in church! The Holy Ghost came upon us in a very special way.
Toward the end of the service I saw a vision. I was a ball of light fall from heaven and hit the ground in front of us. There appeared a gigantic nuclear explosion that went out from the explosion. It hit people in waves and passed through them. I don't have enough words to describe what I saw. I started to tell the church, but felt inadequate to explain it so I said nothing and dismissed them.
As I turned to leave the platform, one of my assistants grabbed my arm and said, "Pastor, I have to tell you something!" He went on to describe in detail the vision that I had just had! As he told it, I interrupted him and told a part of it! We both had the same vision!

God is doing great things!

What a time to live for Jesus!

Rainy Days

It's another rainy winter day here in Los Angeles. Mind you, I'm not complaining! Living in an arid city where the average annual rainfall is a mere 14.77 inches, has distinct advantages! (like Golf!)

I read this week that Miami Fl. is one of the wettest cities in the world. Far surpassing London and Seattle and other cities noted for their rainfall. Another reason on my list of 100,000 reason NOT to live in Florida!

In prayer this week, I don't seem to be able to get beyond the feeling of "obedience". It is the supreme quality in a man or woman that God looks for. It far surpasses talents and abilities. It even surpasses the important quality of willingness. I recall the messenger in the Old Testament, who was ready and eager to deliver a message, but arrived at his destination without one.

In our home bible study last Friday night we had a wonderful study on John the Baptist. He was God's messenger. Malachi prophesied long before John came.... "Malachi 3:1 (KJV)
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.

John came and boldly declared, "God's kingdom IS coming! Prepare YOURSELVES to be a part of it!" It's coming whether or not you believe in it, participate in it, like it, desire it or whatever! It's coming!

Kinda reminds me of OUR message! Jesus is coming! Ready or NOT!

Rainy or not!

Incredible service

Last night we experienced such a powerful moving of God's spirit in our church.

This move of God was precipitated by our young people who fasted for 24 hours from Monday evening until Tuesday evening. Fasting does some things in the spiritual realm that nothing else can do.

God despises the smell of "human flesh". I use the words "human flesh" to describe carnal thinking and living. How many times do the scriptures admonish God's people to, "cleanse yourselves", "purify yourselves", "Sanctify yourselves", and then "draw nigh"?

After a season of cleansing ourselves from the "filthiness" of the flesh, we bathe ourselves in the sweet perfume of worship and praise, then suddenly...

He is there, in the room with us!

Mac World 2008

My son and I along with Antonio Buford arrived this morning at Mac world expo in San Francisco!

This place is insane! This morning was one of the few times in my life when I was actually afraid for myself and my son. Very poor planning on the part of the Expo, left thousands of us crushed together in a lobby designed for several hundred people. Being taller than the average person, I at least was able to see over the crowd. My son was jammed into my rear pocket, until finally we pushed our way through the crowd. It took us over an hour to push 20 feet.

And to think that this morning I blogged about being thankful for my life.

God is so good to us.

Thank God for LIFE!

I'm ALIVE! I woke up this morning thankful to be alive. Not really for any dramatic reason. There were no close calls on my life (that I'm aware of anyway.) I'm just thankful for the life that God has given to me. It's not a perfect life. I don't have everything I wish I could have. But it's my life, and I'm thankful today!

Psalm 139:14 - I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

I will acknowledge my source of life today! Jesus!
John 1:4 - In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

When Jesus came He had something mentioned here that He has shared with man. This is his gift for us.

· LIFE

There are three aspects of life that Jesus gave to man.

1. Physical Life – Because he is creator, He has given you and every other individual “life”. If for no other reason, we should be indebted to Christ!

2. Eternal Life – Jesus came to earth with eternal life. He came to live a perfect life and then to die in our places for our sins.
John 3:14-18 - And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: [15] That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. [16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[18] He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

3. Abundant Life

John 10:10 - The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Jesus not only came to give you eternal life, but He came to give you abundant life, right now.

Every person ever born receives the first gift, Physical life.

Some go on to receive the second gift, Eternal life.

Then there are some who learn to live an Abundant life!

A strange dream

It's 2:31 am. I've just awaken from sleep with an unusual dream.

I was surrounded by stuff. Cars, homes, computers and strangely enough piles of silver and gold. Just as I was looking around and becoming cognizant of all of the things, I began to be lifted up. Higher and higher until I could see that it was all on a table. All of the material stuff was laid out like a giant (to me) game board. As I watched giant hands began clearing the board, the game was over. The silver and gold turned into little rivers and poured back into giant hands. The houses and cars were swept from the board into the giant hands. The game was over.

Then I heard a voice. "In the end, winning is not about how much "stuff" you have, but how OBEDIENT YOU'VE BEEN!"

The Vessel

Last Sunday I spoke to our congregation about becoming a vessel of honor for the Lord.

I had prepared different kinds of vessels prior to the service and one at a time brought them out.

First, I brought out a trash can. What do you think of when you see a trash can? Trash?
That's because, it was created to be a vessel of dis-honor. It's purpose is to hold trash.

Second, I brought out our churches beautiful communion set. What do you think of when you see a communion set? Holy, reverence, Lord's supper?
That's because, it was created to be a vessel of honor. It is supposed to be HOLY.

Third, I brought out a paper bag. This also is a vessel. Originally used to bring home milk and eggs and cheese. It's original purpose is honorable. But once at home and emptied, it's put into a trash can and used as a liner. It also is used for dis-honorable purposes.

The bag doesn't care. One day honor, one day dis-honor.

How many people are like that bag? One day praying, singing and worshipping the Lord! The next day they allow all kinds of garbage into their lives.

I purpose to be a vessel of honor! Holy! Holy means "Set apart".

One final thought, the thing that makes an object "Holy" is it's PURPOSE!

Let's be a HOLY people for our LORD!

Belated Happy New Years!

It's been extremely hectic in our lives the past few days, but I thought I'd better blog at least a Happy New Years to all!
May God bless each and every one as He has blessed us.
