The Vessel

Last Sunday I spoke to our congregation about becoming a vessel of honor for the Lord.

I had prepared different kinds of vessels prior to the service and one at a time brought them out.

First, I brought out a trash can. What do you think of when you see a trash can? Trash?
That's because, it was created to be a vessel of dis-honor. It's purpose is to hold trash.

Second, I brought out our churches beautiful communion set. What do you think of when you see a communion set? Holy, reverence, Lord's supper?
That's because, it was created to be a vessel of honor. It is supposed to be HOLY.

Third, I brought out a paper bag. This also is a vessel. Originally used to bring home milk and eggs and cheese. It's original purpose is honorable. But once at home and emptied, it's put into a trash can and used as a liner. It also is used for dis-honorable purposes.

The bag doesn't care. One day honor, one day dis-honor.

How many people are like that bag? One day praying, singing and worshipping the Lord! The next day they allow all kinds of garbage into their lives.

I purpose to be a vessel of honor! Holy! Holy means "Set apart".

One final thought, the thing that makes an object "Holy" is it's PURPOSE!

Let's be a HOLY people for our LORD!

What a beautiful post and fitting illustration! I want to be a vessel of honor to the service of the King of Kings.
